1% for the Planet

Green Marketers is a member of 1% for the Planet. As a member of this organization, we donate 1% of our annual sales towards positive change for the environment.

Taking responsibility for the planet

Did you know only three per cent of charitable giving goes to environmental organizations?
That’s surprising. Climate breakdown, pollution, and loss of biodiversity are some of the biggest problems facing humanity.

1% for the Planet was founded on the idea that companies should do more to help solve these problems. After all, companies profit from the resources they take from the Earth. It should be their responsibility to help protect those resources.

How does it work?

1% for the Planet is based on a simple principle. Companies can join the organization by committing to donate at least 1% of their annual sales. The money goes to nonprofit organizations that work on real solutions in areas such as climate, food, pollution, and wildlife.

1% for the Planet connects donors and charities. It doesn’t work as a middleman taking money away from foundations. So the more companies join, the further that one per cent can reach!

Our sustainable mission

We think 1% for the Planet is a great fit for our own sustainable mission. Committing to 1 per cent is a positive action every company can take to take responsibility for their environmental impact.

This is not philanthropy. This should be a cost of doing business. It’s paying rent for our use of the planet.

Choosing a charity

As a member of 1% for the Planet, you get to choose which charity you want to support. With thousands of nonprofits partners in the directory, we had plenty of choices. That’s why we decided to ask our LinkedIn network for help. We posted a poll, asking readers to decide between three charities focused on wildlife conservation.

  • World Land Trust. This charity strategically buys land to safeguard biodiversity hotspots for the future. Ownership of the land always remains with local people.
  • Rewilding Europe. This organization makes Europe a wilder place. Even in such a densely populated continent, it’s still possible to give space back to nature.
  • The Thin Green Line. Protecting wildlife reserves from threats like poaching is an important but dangerous job. This charity provides help to rangers and their families.

There was a clear winner: 58% of the respondents to our poll voted for World Land Trust. Our contribution will help to preserve invaluable natural areas such as the rainforests of Malaysia.
